The CEC is proud to announce the addition of three new editors to our team: Gillian Jerome in Vancouver, Will Sweger in Seattle, and Damon Barta in Spokane.
Our founding members—Matthew Bennett, Judith Scholes, and Lucia Lorenzi—primarily edit academic, fiction, and memoir manuscripts. We’re happy to bring on board three trusted and knowledgable editors, who bring with them additional experience in poetry, journalism, and short fiction.
Gillian Jerome is an editor, writer, and instructor based in Vancouver, BC. Her first book, Red Nest, won the ReLit Prize for Poetry; and her second book, Hope in Shadows: Stories and Photographs from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, won the City of Vancouver Book Award. Her work has appeared in several magazines, including The Colorado Review, Canadian Literature, Subterrain, and GEIST.
Will Sweger is a freelance editor and writer whose work has appeared in Seattle Weekly, Curbed Seattle, The Urbanist, and Cascadia Magazine. Previously, he served as editor-at-large for the South Seattle Emerald, a newspaper for Seattle’s diverse South End. Will’s experience also includes performing as the engagement director of the Hugo House, Seattle’s premier literary arts center.
Damon Barta is an editor, author, and instructor in Spokane, WA. He is currently Assistant Editor for Multi-Ethnic Literatures of the United States (MELUS), a preeminent peer-reviewed academic journal, and his short fiction has appeared in Fjords, The Baltimore Review, and Salamander. Damon has also published scholarly work in Representing 9/11: Trauma, Ideology, and Nationalism in Literature, Film, and Television and Philip Roth Studies.
We’re growing because our client base is growing! The sheer abundance of inquiries and manuscripts we receive often means we must pass some inquiries on to our colleagues at the Northwest Editors Guild. Now, with our growing Collective, we can better serve our clients.
We’ve also updated our website. Do check out our new Editors and Services pages to learn more about who we are and what we do. You may also read our Blog, which is regularly updated with book reviews and announcements about clients’ publications and our own literary accomplishments.
